PERSPECTIVES
Philip Zimbardo: The Psychology of Time Perspectives
|
Marshmallows & Time Perspectives
In the famous Stanford experiment . . . Zimbardo says . . . |
|
At age 18, the marshmallow children were re-examined and researchers found some startling differences between the two groups of children . . .
|
|
Zimbardo says Time Perspectives are the basis for arguments, unhappiness, and feeling stuck.
Happy, successful people usually make decisions by fluctuating through three different Time Perspectives: PAST (positive), PRESENT (hedonism), and FUTURE (goal oriented or transcendental). Even though tendencies can be seen as early as Age 4, with awareness and practice, I can become more balanced. |
SCHEDULING
Marie Forleo: If it’s not scheduled, it’s not real.
Marie Forleo says, "If it's not scheduled, it's not real." This means . . .
The easiest way to get control of my time is realistic scheduling.
Important stuff goes in the calendar. Things I can and will do.
When I miss a deadline or goal, it's easy to so into OVERWHELM.
So being realistic is key.
What do I schedule?
Deadlines of course, but even better, I plan and schedule the time it will take to complete a project.
And since I've got the planner action, I can implement the goods.
